Australian driver Oscar Piastri took second place in the Formula 1 São Paulo GP sprint race on Saturday, after starting from pole position. Near the end of the session, Piastri had to swap places with his teammate, Lando Norris, following a radio call from McLaren. Despite the position change, Piastri expressed satisfaction with his performance.

After the race, Piastri discussed the newly resurfaced Interlagos track, which posed challenges for drivers. "Yes, it was a bit tricky, to be honest. Very bumpy, as we know. And the racing line was incredibly narrow,” he noted.

He also highlighted the points earned and the insights gained for the main race. “If we’d lost [the win] by a fraction, it would’ve caused all kinds of issues. So, it’s been a great day for the team and plenty of points,” Piastri said. “I think we learned a lot for tomorrow’s race.”

When asked about his outlook for the main event, Piastri was optimistic: “Yes, I think I’m positive. I think our pace was good, but Ferrari was very quick off the line, and Max is very fast at the end. So, we’ll see.”

Piastri mentioned areas for improvement for Sunday’s race. “I think we have some things we want to try to improve a bit for this afternoon’s qualifying and for tomorrow’s race, but I think we’re in good shape.”
